A composer, vocalist, electroacoustic performer, sound artist, and a founding member of After Dinner (1981-1991) and Hoahio. Haco has created numerous recordings both as producer and sound designer. As a musician, she has given performances throughout Japan and the world. With her unique sensibility, Haco has developed a practice based on principles of post-punk, electroacoustics, the avant-garde, improvisation, post-rock, environmental sound, and technology. In 2005, her CD "Stereo Bugscope 00" was awarded a prize in the digital music category at Prix Ars Electronica in Austria.
“A founding member of the legendary band After Dinner, Haco is one of the most versatile vocalists in the Japanese indies scene.” (John Zorn)
"Haco is capable of gallons of tenderness and melancholy." (Kurt Gottschalk)
"Who is Haco? Perhaps she is the joy of running down the passage beyond overtones and returning on the waves.” (Ytamo)
"References to Kate Bush circa Hounds of Love and The Sensual World, Bittová, and Japanese pop all are in order, yet the album establishes its own identity made of fragile moments and powerful, surreal episodes." (François Couture, AllMusic)
"Haco has a soft, airy voice and her lyrics (sung in both English and Japanese) are inflected with an intelligent sense of whimsy as she sings of the dreamier aspects of modern life." (Brian Olewnick)
"Listening to After Dinner is like submerging yourself in water and going to sleep while playing Kate Bush on one CD player and traditional Japanese music on another." (Julian Cope presents Head Heritage)
