Guitarist Kobe Van Cauwenberghe, born in Antwerp, Belgium, is a commited performer of the music of today. In addition to a master degree in guitar performance at the conservatory of Ghent, where he studied with Tom Pauwels, he received a 2nd master degree in Contemporary Performance Practice from the Manhattan School of Music in New York City, where he studied with David Starobin and Mark Stewart. To help him realize this program he received a fellowship from the Belgian American Education Foundation.
During his three year long stay in New York City, Kobe was a member of the Wet Ink Ensemble and was involved in several large projects as a freelance guitarist, including a tour with the Signal Ensemble and Helmut Lachenmann for the composer’s 75th birthday and, with the Talea Ensemble, the American premiers of Fausto Romitelli’s Professor Bad Trip, An Index of Metals and his solo work Trash TV Trance. He also worked with the Callithumpian Consort in Boston, the International Ensemble Modern Academy in Frankfurt and the Either/Or Ensemble in New York.
Kobe is currently a member of the electric guitar-quartet Zwerm, which he co-founded in 2007, and the Nadar Ensemble. As a freelance guitarist he performed with the Ictus ensemble in Brussels and ensembles 2E2M and Multilatérale in Paris. He also forms the guitar duo Oh Mensch with Matthias Koole, with whom he was a fellow at the Akademie Schloss Solitude in Stuttgart. As a soloist he released his first solo-album “Give my Regards to 116th Street” on the New York label Carrier Records in february 2015.
In the past years Kobe has played concerts all over the world, both as a soloist as in chambermusic formation and large ensemble. He played in festivals like Manifeste, The Bang on a Can Marathon, The Holland Festival, Tzlil Meudcan, Brisbane Festival, FIME-Sao Paulo, Festival Internacional Chihuahua, Donaueschinger Tage für Neue Musik and the Damstadt Summer Course for New Music, where he was awarded a Stipend Prize in 2010.
In addition to his solo-album on Carrier Records, Kobe Van Cauwenberghe can also be heard on Psi Label, New World Records, Bridge records and on Mode Records with a CD/DVD dedicated to the music of Helmut Lachenmann.

Kobe Van Cauwenberghe, guitariste originaire d’Anvers (Belgique), se consacre principalement à la musique d’aujourd’hui. Après avoir accompli un Master in de muziek au conservatoire de Gand où il a étudié avec Tom Pauwels, il a obtenu la bourse de la Belgian American Educational Foundation qui lui a permis d’aller continuer sa formation à la Manhattan School of Music (New York, Etats-Unis) où il a obtenuen 2010 un Master spécialisé en interprétation contemporaine et compté parmi ses professeurs David Starobin et Mark Stewart.
Durant ces trois ans à New York, Kobe a été le guitariste de l’ensemble Wet Ink et a fait partie d’événements majeurs incluant une tournée avec l’ensemble Signal et Helmut Lachenmann à l’occasion des 75 ans du compositeur et, avec l’ensemble Talea, a interprété les créations américaines de Professor Bad Trip, An Index of Metals et le solo Trash TV Trance de Fausto Romitelli.
En ce moment Kobe est membre de Zwerm, quatuor de guitares électriques et de l’ensemble Nadar. En tant que guitariste-freelance il a joué avec Ictus à Bruxelles et plusieurs ensembles à Paris et à New York. Il est aussi actif dans Oh Mensch, duo de guitare avec Matthias Koole, avec lequel il était en residence à l'Akademie Schloss Solitude à Stuttgart, et en tant que soliste, interprétant le répertoire contemporain existant et contribuant à son développement en suscitant l’écriture de nouvelles pièces. Il s’est produit en tant que soliste en Europe, aux États-Unis, au Mexique et au Canada dans des salles comme deSingel, Flagey, Le Palais des Beaux Arts, Le Poisson Rouge, Miller Theater, Merkin Hall, et entre autres festivals, Festival Manifeste, Musica Strasbourg, Tzlil Meudcan, The Bang on a Can Marathon, Le Holland Festival, Festival Internacional Chihuahua, FIME - Sao Paulo, Brisbane Festival, Donaueschinger Tage für Neue Musik et au Darmstadt Ferienkurse für neue Musik où il a gagné le prix d’interprétation en 2010.
