For this fifth episode, we had the pleasure to welcome New York native Elizabeth Acevedo, an American poet and National Slam Champion, and the 2016 Women of the World Poetry Slam representative for Washington, D.C, where she lives and works.
Just before her performance in Pianofabriek, we took her to Arlequin Recordshop down the street to pick up some vinyls. At the end of the first vinyl session, she slams a short poem for us. After that, we had a passionate talk about vinyl, music and poetry – she explains how she took musical inspirations from her father’s record player (and from her brothers’ hip hop collection) on their Friday Music Nights at her parental home, and how her musical roots influenced her slam poetry.
