The Clandestine Transmissions of Pirate Jenny (26:13) 2002/2011 , Anna Friz
When I was young, I half-believed that the voices emanating from the radio were the voices of the little people who lived inside. Turn on the radio and the little people begin to talk; change the station and they change their voices. What happens when we turn off the radio? The little people wait inside, ever-ready to sing and talk and provide the latest weather report at the click of the dial. But perhaps hard times have descended on these miniature denizens of Radioland, resulting in downsizing and redundancy, and finally diaspora. Perhaps one such little radio person, alone in her radio set and unsure of how it came to be, might take action. What if she attempts to communicate with other radios, dreaming of a secret relay network linking clock radio to car radio to kitchen radio, while we, the Ears, are inattentive, absent or asleep? Who is listening, and will they respond?
