Daniel Jonkers is a Brussels-based drummer and composer.
Since moving from Maastricht to Brussels in 2015, he has been very active in the music scene in Belgium. He completed his Masters in Music with Stéphane Galland, Kris Defoort and John Ruocco at the Royal Conservatory of Brussels in 2018.
Daniel is a very demanded sideman in different projects such as Lennert Baerts:
Profound Observer, Nabou Claerhout Trombone Ensemble, Nicolas Thys Sound Circus.
As a co-bandleader he formed the groups Aligaga, JSS, Sauzereau/Bourgeois/Jonkers trio and released an EP under the name Johni Stokers together with Federico Stocchi.
He is currently composing new music and bringing it to different musical constellations exploring his own musical language. For his compositions he primarily uses the guitar and is inspired by various genres. His personal style of drumming was formed by being possessed by blues rock from his early teenage years, getting a taste of more alternative indie music afterwards and
diving in to jazz from his early twenties.
Being open to explore any genre and wanting to break boundaries Daniel became a musician often asked for different situations. He is eager to make music with an open mind, shaping the stage into a playground where everybody surrenders to the music and the present.
