Marie Davidson is a Canadian singer, poet, and electronic music producer. Originating from Montreal, she is also one half of the minimal wave duo Essaie Pas,a duo she formed with her partner, Frenchman Pierre Guerineau. She sings in both English and French. Her third album, Adieux au Dancefloor was named by Pitchfork as one of "The 20 Best Electronic Albums of 2016". The album is themed around Davidson's ambivalent feelings towards dance music and club culture. Describing her two earlier albums, Pitchfork wrote, "Her two previous solo releases (Perte D'Identité and Un Autre Voyage) mingled gothic ambient music, poetic repetitions, and analog synthpop to great success. Her work has never felt campy, but is darkly rendered, probing, and redolent of Lizzy Mercier Descloux.
