DJ Meeuw (Meeuw Muzak) was our guest this week, playing music featuring Albert Oehlen (Wendy Gondeln, Red Krayola, Jailhouse, Van Oehlen, Nachdenkliche Wehrpflichtige, Alma Band a.o).
Why? Meeuw Muzak has just released a 7" by Wendy Gondeln (Albert Oehlen) & Luke Calzonetti (Run Dust), titled 'Tony Conrad'. "2 nagelnieuwe smash hits of horror percussion topped with akelige stemmen and a violin, broken under a bridge over sparkling water" says Dennis Tyfus. This is the fifth release on Meeuw which features Albert Oehlen, so why not?
EXXTRA! DJ Meeuw will play records at the concert of Felix Kubin on 29th August at Les Atelier Claus. So we rang up Felix for a discussion about shoes, noses, his residency in Brussels with Marie Losier, Albert Oehlen, and more.
On Meeuw Muzak :
"... the greatest 7" label in all of Forest" - Moacrealsloa.
"Experimental music, sound art, reggae, synth pop, even Christmas crackers — Meeuw has it all. On 7″ of course." - Meakusma Festival 2017
On Albert Oehlen :
"Albert Oehlen is an abstract painter – except when he isn't." - Time Out London.
"Oehlen has spoken of his work as resistant to the paraphrasing involved in exegesis. His 'autonomous' objects derive this independence from their heterogeneous criteria." - Frieze
