Skat is a card game for three players that was developed in Altenburg, Germany, at the beginning of the 19th century. There are always two players playing against one. In a complex ritual of bidding the declarer is chosen. Despite the mismatch of 2 : 1 of the players, Skat is a perfectly balanced game in which luck and strategy create a new equal constallation each time.
These characteristics create for many players a situation of loosing track of time. They can play without interruption throughout whole nights, as if under the influence of a drug.
2 : 1 is a radiophonic sound installation whose output is remixed continuously by the constantly changing connection between three audio feedback loops. It will be used as background music for a session of Skat in the Radio Art Zone studio during its broadcast.
2 : 1 is part of a series of radio installations that have seeped into the ether since 2007.
