Their paths regularly crossed in the improvised music scene of Amsterdam: Terrie Ex, guitarist of the elusive Dutch band The Ex for over 40 years, and Slovenian pianist Kaja Draksler, who currently lives in Copenhagen. The self-taught performer versus the schooled musician: on paper it might hardly make sense, but on stage they sound perfectly compatible. Together they explore all kinds of timbres through extended techniques on electric guitar and piano, and through the use of tools and toys.
Nuits uses improvisation with obsessive repetitions in never-ending variations. The music moves from brutal peaks of energy to very minimalist atmospheres, mixing electronic timbres with acoustic textures. The group appears as one body moving through a post-apocalyptic landscape in a one-sequence-shot movie. nuits are Emilie Škrijelj, Thomas Coquelet, Tom Malmendier and Stéphane Clor who met each other in the Dreieck Interferences, a collective for experimental music based in the east of France.
