Tonight our guest is Pak Yan Lau who will play live and talk about a lot of things!

Born in Belgium, with origins from Hong Kong, Lau Pak Yan started playing the piano at the age of 9.
She studied and obtained her degree for classical piano in Belgium (The Royal Conservatory of Antwerp) and Portugal (ESMAE, O Porto).
After which she participated in jazz workshops in Belgium and Italy with among others; Christoph Erbstosser, Mark Levine, Stefano Battaglia, Franco d’Andrea, Marilyn Crispell, etc…
After moving to Brussels, she started developing more the sound and free improvisation side of her music. Explorations and experimentations with toy piano’s and toy related instruments, electronics and keyboards led her to found several different projects/bands (for example: The Crappy Mini Band, Kuruwasan, Going, Lauroshilau, etc…)
She has composed music for dance-‐theatre productions (‘Gadgetland’ with Lazara Rosell Albear, Appeau with Cie La Zampa and shadow theatre with Dala Dala Company) One Land Many Faces (European Theatre project), documentary (‘News From Nowhere’ by Christoph Van Collie) and Children Theatre Tweelicht & Zoon (production ‘SAAI’).
She also gives workshops in free improvised music.
Toured in Europe (The Netherlands, Spain, Portugal, Italy, France, United Kingdom, Austria, Germany, etc..) and Japan, playing and sharing stages with musicians such as Akira Sakata, Tetuzi Akiyama, Morishige, Daysuke Takaoka, Tatsuhisa Yamamoto, Toshimaru Nakamura, Yuko Oshima, Chris Corsano, Mette Rasmussen, Paolo Angeli, Giovanni Di Domenico, João Lobo, Norberto Lobo, Audrey Lauro, Gregoire Tirtiaux, Susana Santos Silva, Peter Jacquemyn, Rie Nakajima, Maja Osojnik, Andreas Trobollowitsch, Manja Ristic and many more.
She released several records/cd’s with her different projects (See: https://pakyanlau.com/discography/) on Creative Sources, Silent Water Records, Meakusma Records and La Dame Avec Le Chien. Currently she more implicated in her solo project, where she plays different set ups, ranging from acoustic prepared piano, till electronics/ samples and synths to toy piano’s and objects.
